The original Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1972. After moving to Phoenix and become the Coyotes in 1996 there was no hockey team in Winnipeg for fifteen years. The Atlanta Trashers became the new Winnipeg Jets at the beginning of the 2011 season. They currently play at the MTS Centre, which was opened in 2004 and holds 15,000 fans.
