When my little sister fell in love with tennis, I knew that I would have to find US Open tickets no matter how much the US Open ticket prices cost for her birthday. I started trying to find the tickets in the month of May, not realizing that US Open tickets do not go on sale until June 2012! This was my first hurdle in making my sister’s birthday perfect.
Securing the tennis tickets was so important to me because of how much I love my sister. Growing up, I always felt responsible for my sister, because she is almost ten years younger than me. Yet, over the years, that responsibility that I felt for my sister has turned into a deep appreciation and respect for who she has grown up to be. So I wanted to do something that would make her ecstatically happy.
A simple Google search brought up the information that I needed to get the US Open tickets for my sister’s birthday. It was problematic that the tickets were not going on sale until June largely because I was looking to buy those tennis tickets in May. Not knowing how much the tickets would cost made me extremely nervous.
It was when I was looking for those tennis tickets, so that my sister could see tennis pro matches, that I realized just how ignorant I am of the game. The only experience that I had with tennis dated back to high school; tennis was one of the only gym activities that I enjoyed. After my high school gym classes, I forgot about tennis. At least until my sister became solely preoccupied with all things tennis.
Reveries of my sister smiling with her eyes all lit up as she opened an envelope with US Open tickets stayed in my mind for weeks. I became obsessed. I had to get her those tickets!
Yet as I became more serious about buying the tickets, my sister seemed to have less interest in tennis! I could not believe it. Tennis was her life’s blood only a month ago. My little sister is one of the most kind , intelligent, and loving people that I know; but, since she has been a teenager, she has, at times, often changed her mind.
After a few weeks of my sister’s diminishing love of tennis, I decided to stop trying to find US Open tickets. I think what made her even more happy than being able to watch the US Open in person was being able to play a game of tennis with me at a local tennis court. It was also a lot cheaper than paying US Open ticket prices! All in all, my sister ended up having a wonderful birthday, playing a game that she loves, in beautiful weather!
